From New Testament beginnings to today...Our Story.

With beliefs and foundations firmly based on the Church that Christ established in the New
Testament, the early Christians in the Boardtown community first met in homes of the members.
Later, they started meeting in an old schoolhouse known as the Sheep
Pen/Harper School on Lucius Road beginning in the 1930's. At that time, most people walked to church, often
from up to 3-4 miles away on often muddy mountain roads. They had to carry water from a nearby spring and, as indoor
plumbing had yet to become commonplace, use an outhouse.
A church building was built in 1945 on property donated by John W. Thurman and George W. Holloway on what is
now known as Bushy Head Rd. We now use this historic building as our Fellowship Building. Our current church building
on Lucius Road, was built around 1970 on property donated by William T. Holloway. Both of these buildings were constructed
by the members themselves. As is the case now, everyone that wished to be was involved in some way, from the smallest
to the oldest.
Studying and learning more
about God's Word has always been important to our congregation. In the early days, preachers would come from other locations
and preach on Sundays. Later on, full-time ministers were added. Some of the preachers from the early years were
Preacher Hogan, Romaine Parnell, Creed Samples, H. C. Owens, and Thurman Chitwood, just to name a few. We are
very blessed today to have David Mullins as our preacher. He does a fantastic job preaching and teaching timely, relevant
lessons from the Bible.
